Voices of Deakin

From our community, for our community
Voices of Deakin is a community-led group of local residents working to strengthen participation in democracy and create a better future for our community.
We believe our democracy works best when people are genuinely heard, decisions are evidence-based, and representatives act with integrity and accountability – and free from the influence of party politics, donors and lobbyists.
As volunteers from across the electorate, we listen to our community, encourage active civic participation, and support community-led independent representation.
Our work focuses on understanding the values and priorities of our community, with the aim of providing a clear, values-aligned independent choice for voters at both federal and state elections.
Voices of Deakin is expanding!
Many of the decisions that affect our daily lives are made at the state-level, in the Victorian Parliament.
In the lead-up to the 2026 Victorian state election, we are engaging with residents from the state districts of Croydon and Ringwood to better understand local priorities and explore the potential for community-endorsed independent candidates in those two districts. Take our new state survey or find out more.

We have a fresh new look!
You might have noticed we’ve lightly refreshed our logo across our website, emails, and community materials. It’s not a rebrand — the look and values you have come to know are the same, the changes are to improve readability and clarity, and provide greater brand consistency across digital and print.

We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, as the Traditional Owners of the land we live and work on in the Deakin electorate.

We recognise their enduring, continued connection to land, sea, sky and community, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to the courage, wisdom and resilience of Elders past, present and emerging.
Listening to the community
The success of the 'Voices' movement has shown democracy can be done differently – and done better!
Following the blueprint of the Community Independents Project, we are working to identify strong, community-backed independent candidates — at both federal and state levels — including in the federal electorate of Deakin and the state districts of Croydon and Ringwood.
We do this by listening. Through our Surveys, Community Conversations, and by talking with the community at train stations, shopping centres, festivals and markets, we are engaging with people across Deakin to understand their priorities, concerns and hopes for the future.

The direction we take is grounded in what matters most to our community.

Events
We plan to host movie nights, trivia nights
and other activities. Check-in from time-to-time to see what's planned or sign up to be kept updated.
