Federal electorate of Deakin

Location

Deakin is located in the outer-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It stretches from Vermont to parts of Blackburn, through Nunawading, Forest Hill, Mitcham and Ringwood, across Park Orchards and Warranwood, and along Croydon, Kilsyth and parts of Bayswater and Heathmont.

Current representative

The current Member of Parliament for Deakin is Michael Sukkar of the Liberal Party. We encourage you to check his voting record on issues of importance to you, to ensure you are satisfied with how he votes on your behalf.

Wurrundjeri Country

The Wurrundjeri People are the traditional owners of what is now known as Deakin.

Deakin incorporates Mullum Mullum Creek, a tributary of the Yarra River that flows for 22km, and runs through many of the suburbs of Deakin. It’s one of the only watercourses in urban metropolitan Melbourne that’s surrounded by native and regenerated bushland for almost its entire length.

It’s a significant remnant ecosystem in Melbourne that provides habitat for species such as the Platypus, Rakali, Koala, Powerful Owl, Nankeen Night Heron and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, and of course the Kookaburra.
