Congratulations to Jess Ness!

Voices of Deakin congratulates Jess Ness on her result in the recent federal election.

Achieving over 7% of the primary vote is an exceptional first-time result, particularly with such a short lead-time to build her profile and connect with the residents across Deakin.

This campaign has shown there is an appetite for change, and to do politics differently.

Voices of Deakin is currently assessing next steps and we will be in touch with our subscribers in due course. If you'd like to be kept up to date, please subscribe below.

From our community, for our community

Voices of Deakin (VoD) is a group of residents seeking to create a better future for our community, and for the generations who follow us, through greater connection to and independent representation in Parliament.

As part of this, we embarked on a community listening project to find out what the people of our federal electorate of Deakin care most about. We are currently preparing a report which will be made available on our website soon.

In the meantime, our online survey is closed, but we will be launching a new one soon for 2025–26.

We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Woi-wurrung Clan of the Kulin Nation, as the Traditional Owners of the land we live and work on in the Deakin electorate.

We recognise their enduring, continued connection to land, sea, sky and community, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to the courage, wisdom and resilience of Elders past, present and emerging.

Listening to the community

The success of the ‘Voices’ movement demonstrates that
democracy can be done differently, and done better.

Following the blueprint of the Community Independents Project, we have embarked on a journey to find a strong, independent candidate, who most of the community would be happy to stand behind at the next federal election.

This involves engaging with as many people as possible from the Deakin community through our Survey, Kitchen Table Conversations, door knocking, and other events and community engagement such as at train stations, shopping centres, festivals and markets.
