Attend or Host a Kitchen Table Conversation (KTC)

To ensure that we understand community sentiment and represent the voices of the community, we invite people from across the Deakin Electorate to be a part of the conversation so we can hear about the issues they are most concerned about.

The information supplied through KTCs and our Survey will be compiled into a report summarising community views. The report will be presented to our Federal Member, and other candidates for comment.

What is a KTC?

KTCs are a simple, relaxed, small group discussion, led by a volunteer facilitator, to give voice to people's interests, concerns and ideas which are heard, collated and placed at the centre of the political process.

KTCs are designed as an information gathering process, that provides the space and time for participants to express their thoughts, listen to others and to find areas of common ground relating to the experience of living in Deakin.

The information given is absolutely anonymous and will be compiled and published into a report that will be shared publicly but strictly anonymously.

There are a few ground rules, including that everyone is entitled to have a say and have their contributions respected. KTCs are a forum for listening, not for changing the opinions of others.

The conversations usually take place in people’s homes, but can also be conducted in cafes, parks, pubs, online, or anywhere that is comfortable to gather.

When they’ve been used in the past, KTCs have been described as enjoyable, satisfying and empowering.
